His son-in-law Wilhelm Kohn reported his death and gave his age as 57 years 5 months 10 days, so born 10.09.1821; despite the precision of his age, Wilhelm's mathematics may have been flawed.

Mara Thorson gives his date of death as 21.03.1879; Nothmann Family Collection, 1978 gives 21.02.1879. His gravestone says he died on 25 Shevat 5639 (18.02.1879). His death certificate says 21.02.1879.
