Notes

GM writes:
Ernst had sugar diabetes and died at the age of 46, in 1911. He was director of the tar factory in Oswiecim. It is still fully operational as a tar and roofing factory and stands right on the perimeter of the Auschwitz death camp.

A gravestone for an Ernst Schlesinger (08.05.1862 - 18.01.1912) stands in Kozilska Street Cemetery, Katowice. While there is no evidence to confirm that this is the same Ernst Schlesinger (both names being very common) the era, his early death leaving his wife a widow and the family connection with Kattowitz (Fanny grew up there) fit with what is known: Hans' death announcement in 1918 mentions Ernst's wife but omits Ernst.
