Gunther emigrated to the USA in 1939 to stay with his cousin Joseph Steinert (presumably a nephew of his mother), having previously stayed with his great uncle Georg in Prague.

Gunther contributed testimonials to his parents, giving an address in Delray Beach, Florida, less than 10 miles from Boca Raton where he died.
