Notes

From the time of their marriage until 1889, Elias and Friede's children where born in Kempen; from 1890 they were born in Breslau. Elias is listed in the Breslau synagogue community address list (ca 1930) at Salzstrasse 22; also listed at that address is a Dr. med. Hans Freund born 25/12/1896.

Fanny's death is mentioned in Bertha's death certificate, meaning that she died in 1893. A Yad Vashem testimonial by his daughter identifies his wife as Valerie geb. Goldstaub and mentions his death on 02/12/1942 in Theresienstadt concentration camp. Other Yad Vashem records give the same information and add his birth on 05/05/1862 in Leschnitz, the latter data also appears on his first marriage certificate.

A birth certificate for Gustav, dated April 1895, to parents Elias Freund and Valeska geb. Goldstaub gives the origin of the anglicized "Valerie".

Elias was deported from Breslau to Theresienstadt concentration camp on 27/07/1942.
