Notes

Bernhard Pick's father (Isaac) and paternal grandfather (Marcus) are named in a JRI-Poland record of Bernhard's and Marianne's move in 1841 from Peiskretscham to Gross-Patschin.

Marcus's three wives are derived from the marriage records of his children Samuel, Isaac and Babette, all of which name the father as Marek Pick, butcher of Zaolschan or Gross-Zaolschan. It seems improbable that there would be two butchers with the same given and family names in the same small village at the same time.

It is quite possible that the three names, Saye, Helena, and Lea, relate to the same person. Certainly, Lea and Helena could be Hebrew and German cognates. Saye could be a mis-transcription of Laye, which is is a homophone of Lea. The apparent difference in surnames between Saye David and Helena Kiefer is easily explained by the fact that David is a patronym, so both surnames could derive from a father named David Kiefer.

Died aged 78 years so born 1748-49.
