In 1906 Bernard placed a notice in Der Oberschlesishe Wanderer in which he announced the engagement of their daughter Selma to Willy Heilborn. The notice named his wife as Johanna geb. Karliner and placed them in Gleiwitz. This allows us to identify Bernhard with the coal merchant in Gleiwitz who had business relationships with W. and S. Heilborn, and who is named in the 1932 article celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of his company's foundation.

His wife's name distinguishes him from a contemporary namesake who, according to the JRI-Poland record of his marriage to Bertha geb. Tichauer in 1873, was born in Dzietzkowitz, a son of Samuel. His death certificate gives the same information, and indicates that he was still married to Bertha geb. Tichauer at the time of his death in 1927.
