Salomon died aged 76 years so he was born in 1817-18. His date of birth is taken from a JRI-Poland record of the move of Loebel Gerstel and Jette geb. Heilborn and their children from Koten to Bruczek in 1829.

JRI-Poland has a record of Salomon marrying Rosel geb. Blumenfeld in 1845.

Salomon's death certificate names his wife as Rosel. geb Freund and this is confirmed by a record of Rosel geb. Freund, widow of Salomon Gerstel, remarrying the year after Salomon's death. The marriage was witnessed by a Ferdinand Blumenfeld, who also reported Salomon's death. Rosel's death certificate names Salomon as her first and deceased husband.
