Alfred and Margarete are listed in the 1939 census of Breslau at Viktoriastrasse 78. Among others listed at this address are Beate Marcus geb. Riesenfeld born in 1913 in Bromberg (possibly their daughter) and Ernst Manfred Marcus. Ernst's date of birth is not given, but a 1951 passenger list includes Beate aged 38 years and Ernst aged 14 years, so he was born 1936-37.

Alfred and Margarete were deported from Breslau to Theresienstadt concentration camp on 30.08.1942. Alfred died there; Margarete was deported to Auschwitz concentration camp on 15.05.1944.
