The births of the first three children born to Nicholas were registered by the mother who in each case described herself as "Jane Warren, formerly Bunton". The births of Nicholas's later children were registered by Nicholas and name the mother as "Jane Warren, formerly Thoburn". The 1881 census shows children of "both" mothers as members of the same household, so there can be little doubt that all of them had the same Nicholas Warren as their father.

The certificate for her marriage to Nicholas Warren describes her as a spinster aged 25 year, so she was born August 1831 and August 1832. The death certficiate for Jane Warren, wife of Nicholas Warren, in 1896 gives her age as 64 years, so she was born between November 1831 and November 1832. If these were two different people, they shared the same first name and they were born within fifteen months of each other.

The 1881 census gives her age as 48 years, so she was born between April 1832 and April 1833. Combining this with her age at death places her birth between April and November 1832.

Records on ancestry.com show that a Jane Thoburn was baptised in Whitley-by-Hexham in February 1833; the mother is named as Sarah Thoburn but, as with "our" Jane's marriage certificate, the father is not named. A Robert Thoburn, son of Sarah Thoburn and Edward Dixon was baptised there the previous year. The corresponding records on genesreunited.co.uk describe both Robert and Jane as illegitimate, and describe Sarah as a spinster at the time of Jane's baptism. Both records place Sarah in Mirehouse; today Mire House stands just south of Whitley Chapel and about 4 miles south of Hexham.

If this is "our" Jane, then Bunton could be the name of a later step-father or adoptive family.
