Obituary in Rybnik's Katholische Volkszeitung,
1937, Jg. 20, Nr. 50 (26-27 June), page 3

Death of a respected citizen of Rybnik. At the age of 64, the merchant Max Rotter succumbed to a treacherous, insidious disease and was buried the day before yesterday with everyone attending. With Max Rotter, a man sank, whom fate, despite all efforts, did not allow to attain any wealth, but instead involved him in the most difficult struggle for existence, and who, despite all the gravity and bitterness, knew how not to let fate throw him to one side. This is how Max Rotter went straight through life. An abundance of noble gifts of character and heart distinguished the deceased and made him rise to general appreciation. Born in Kr. Pszczyna, he held the post of state auditor of the Silesian Insurance Company in the pre-war period; after drawing the border he became a businessman. In all situations the deceased was the role model of a loyal Polish citizen. How difficult it was for the deceased in life can be seen among other things by the fact that his sons - one a lawyer, the other a medical doctor - helped pay for their academic studies by working for bricklayers, etc. Everyone who knew Rotter will keep him in an honorable memory.

Max's 1900 marriage was witnessed by Adolf Apt.
