John's date of birth is derived from his age in the 1911 census. He is assumed to have died in Portumna as this is given as the parental residence when daughter Mary Agnes married in 1930.

According to a post by her granddaughter, the younger Mary Agnes Hogan (aged 4 in 1911) is the daughter of Patrick; see irelandxo.com.
