Described in her 1875 marriage certificate as the daughter of Helen Benger geb. Tworoger and her husband agent Nathan Benger. Mathilde, born in Gleiwitz, was 24 years old when she married so born 1850-51.

Nathan is also described as an agent in his Gleiwitz 1860 death record. The fact that he was dead when Mathilde married probably explains the unusual naming of her mother before her father.

It is likely that Helen is a younger sister of Nathan's previous wife Caroline.
